With the arrival of new safe roads and budget airlines Almeria is now experiencing an increase in visitors to this region of Spain. Budget airlines such as Jet2, Easyjet, Ryanair, Flybe and Iberia Airlines provide an easy and cheap service from many UK airports.

Almeria airport is located about 10 Kilometers east of Almeria City Centre. The airport is located on the very edge of the Mediterranean Sea, the runways running parallel with the coastline. Access to the airport is by the N340 highway which is well signposted from the Autovia. For travellers to the tourist resort of Mojacar the airport is 90 kilometers with an estimated journey time of about 1 hour. The roads are safe and mostly dual carriageway.

It is a modern airport, with arrivals and departures taking place on the main ground floor. It has a terrace on the 1st floor where passengers can purchase refreshments, relax and look onto the runway to watch airplanes landing and taking off.
