
Golf in Almeria: Golf is the fastest growing leisure
activity on Spain's Costa del Almeria and another good reason to
visit the area. Almeria's ideal climate, new and traditional golf
courses and great holiday facilities are starting to attract new and
experienced Golfers to the region who, along with non-playing
members of their party can also enjoy the sun, sea and local holiday
facilities. Three new challenging golf courses have recently been
opened in the Mojacar area, a fourth sea front golf course is
presently under construction and the El Cortijo Grande course is
being refurbished from a 9 hole to a 18 hole course.
Almeria's golf courses: Almeria is nicely split into two golfing areas. South of Almeria City, La Envia Golf, Playa Serena Golf, Alboran Golf and Golf Almerimar are with easy reach of the holiday resort of Roquetas de Mar. North of Almeria City and close to Mojacar, you will find Marina Golf, Desert Springs, El Cortijo Grande Golf and Valle del Este Golf Resort.
El Cortijo Grande Golf Course: El Cortijo Golf Course is discretely hidden in a magnificent valley in the foothills of Sierra Cabrera. The course offers golfers an experience which is unique to the area, with fairways lined with mature citrus orchards, olive and fig trees all set within the backdrop of picturesque mountains. The original golf course was designed by Paul Jak Polansky and opened in 1976. Work is presently underway to turn the course into an 18 hole by re-design and develop the existing course and adding an additional 9 new holes. Hotel and leisure facilities along with privately owned villas and apartments are also being built around the course.
El Cortijo Grande is located close to the towns of Turre, Garrucha, Mojacar Pueblo and Mojacar Playa. Travelling from Mojacar and passing thought Turre the entrance to the Valley is located 2km past Turre on the left hand side, signposted El Cortijo Grande Golf Resort.
Marina Golf Club: This golf course was designed by Ramon
Espinosa and opened in 2000. It is located between Mojacar Playa and
the fishing town of Garrucha. The course is an 18 hole, 72 par
course of 5,975 metres which lies on either side of a hill. The
course offers views of the Mediterranean Sea on the first 9 holes
and views of the mountains on the second 9 holes, three
strategically placed lakes create challenging water hazards. The
course includes driving range, club house and restaurant, putting greens,
pro shop and dressing room and shower.

Desert Springs: This golf course is the only desert style course in Europe. Designed by Peter McEvoy to full USGA specifications, it is an 18 hole, par 72 course of 6,173 metres. The course lies in the dry rugged landscape of the Tabernas Desert and features wide fairways and fast undulating greens that are surrounded by water hazards, creeks, rocks and thousands of desert cacti and plants.
Valle del Este Golf Resort: The golf course was designed by Jose Canales and opened in 2002. The course is an 18 hole, 71 par course of 5500 metres. It is located close to the towns of Vera and Mojacar. The course has wide generous fairways, true and fast greens and tees that are all positioned on small raised platforms. The golf course has been design to exploit the natural beauty and vegetation of the landscape with the introduction of a number of water hazards making the course a great challenge.
