The Easter week breathed a breath of fresh air and life to the Mojácar area. I didn’t hear a negative word about the traffic and lack of available parking space. Speaking of music in the air, there’s a brand new music venue in the area.

The congestion and flood of people visiting the area during the holiday was very much welcome after a long period of total calm and quiet. Hip, Hip Hooray! Summer is just around the corner and there’s definitely music in the air.

The new Jazz Life Café in Mojácar Pueblo opened Friday, April 7th to much fanfare and proved to be an instant success. Already, they have had great performances by the likes of Diego Cruz, Jorge Pardo, yours truly Sax Johnson, Pepe Viciana (woodwinds) and Pablo Mazuecos (piano) of the Pepe Viciana Quartet, Juan Pablo Zielinski (violinist and Latin guitarist of the group Banda Inaudita) and a host of local musicians that have flocked to the venue to extend a gesture of welcome, show support and commend the owner, Roberto Garcia Sanchez and architect, Luis Santos on a job well done. The Jazz Life Café has ushered in a new era. The stylish and well appointed club is a must see and do when visiting Mojácar Pueblo.

Additionally, while in Mojácar Pueblo and on your way up to The Jazz Café, you’ll find Rayo Del Sol across from the hotel Moresco. They offer live music on Friday and Sunday nights. Catch great acts like Clive Sarstedt and Derek ‘Big D’ Turner or Kev Moore on one of those evenings. For more information call 690 747 124. And for even more music happening in Mojacar Pueblo, El Castillo, Mirador del Castillo located at the top of the Pueblo, Sun., May 28, 7PM. Ciclo, Concert 9. Miriam Gómez-Morán, pianist. Sun., June 25, 7PM. Ciclo, Concert 10. Carmen Mayo, piano, & Jorge Fanjul, cello. Valued master of the piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Valencia, Carmen performs for the first time in the Castillo, with a gifted former student. Jorge plays with the National Orchestra of Spain and the Reina Sofia Chamber Music Orchestra in Madrid, and is solo cellist with the World Orchestra of Young Musicians.

If you’re heading to Garrucha and you’re looking for an evening out that includes dinner and soft jazz guitar, head to Hotel Tikar and catch jazz guitarist Richard Hill on Thursday evenings from 8pm until 11pm.

On Friday nights, Le Bistro in Albox offers live music from 8pm until late. On Saturday evenings, you’ll find live music in Los Gallardos complete with a meal around the pool at Miraflores Restaurant.

Gala’s Bar and Restaurant in Mojácar Playa features the singer Nicole Casey on Saturday evenings. Have dinner and enjoy a little live music as well.

For a great night out you can enjoy a fantastic dinner and catch the group Fig & Bucket with Jude, Jeff and Paul pounding out tune after tune on Sunday evenings at Sax On The Beach. Sax also has live jazz music on Sunday afternoon from 3pm until 5pm.

If you’re a musician or vocalist, you’ll want to visit Sax On The Beach Restaurant and Bar on Wednesday evenings and participate in their weekly jam session. Check for live music with special guest artists on Fri/Sat. Call 950 475 502..

Also on Saturday, if you’re looking for something with a little Latin or with a Spanish flare, then head to the restaurant at Saliente that now features Flamenco every Saturday.
