It’s been almost three years ago since my wife and I first
arrived in Mojacar to set up our home away from home and business.
It had been told to me by people who have lived here for many years
that years ago Mojacar had a thriving and talented artisan community
of musicians and artists that over the years for whatever reasons,
have left the area. I had a vision then that Mojacar could again
become known for having quality live music and just maybe, get rid
of the title of being the “rumor capital” of southern Spain.
If you’re not aware, this article is also published on several websites that help to promote the Mojacar area. One site you might find useful and entertaining is www.click2mojacar.co.uk Check out their site for local information and rental accommodations.
Ok, if you’re a resident or holidaymaker that enjoys visiting the Mojacar area in the “off-season”, you’ll continue to find quality live music occurring in many of the local venues. If you happen to be considering a holiday to southern Spain and you’re looking for a place with a warm and inviting climate steeped in a rich and proud history and tradition, great atmosphere, tranquil and uncrowded beaches, quaint shops and a fantastic selection of Spanish, English, Belgian, North American, Italian and other ethnic bars and restaurants with quality live music entertainment to choose from, you really should consider a trip to Mojacar. Mojacar is “rumored” to be all that and more! Come find out for yourself and taste the difference. You’ll want to make it a regular place to visit and perhaps to live.
As I mentioned in last month’s article, Creamfields made its’ one day concert appearance with the Pet Shop Boys headlining. This year’s event provided only a 1 day format as opposed to what I believe to have previously been a 3 day music format. Nevertheless, the event was projected to draw some 45,000 or more concert goers to the area and although I don’t have the actual tally available, attendance projections may have been met.
In Almeria, unfortunately the Rolling Stones concert was cancelled at the last minute … Ouch! Regardless, this area saw a tremendous amount of other name artists and great live music entertainment from local, national and international talent. Last month I also gave you an update on the proposed Mojacar International Jazz Festival. Work continues to bring it to the area next September 2007 and with luck, a series of bi-monthly concerts leading up to the Festival. Support the effort to make the proposed Jazz Festival a reality. Let me reiterate that the development of this Jazz Festival can be very rewarding to the economic growth of the community.
The Festival will help boost local tourism and business and help reduce the reliance upon traditional ways of promoting the area. What do you think? Write to me at saxjohnson2@gmail.com and if you’re interested in sponsoring or lending your expertise, call me at 657 80 50 32.
Below is our updated listing of some of the live music venues in and around the Mojacar area. The list may not include all venues that provide live music but is a good starting point. You’ll want to get out and discover others on your own. As we get further into the fall time of the year, be aware that some of the beach bars or “chiringitos” close during this time of year. You may want to call before going.
