There are two Veras, Vera Playa and Vera Town. Vera Playa is situated
in Southern Spain on the Mediterranean and Vera town is ten minutes inland.
The town is a beautiful traditional Spanish town while the Playa has been tastefully developed into a
modern tourist resort. The Playa is situated next to the coastal resorts of Garrucha and Villaricos and
close to hilltop town of Mojacar Pueblo and Mojacar Playa.
Vera town was originally on the coast but was moved inland by the Moors. Legion has it, Queen Isabel climbed to the top of mount Espiritu Santo and fired an arrow into the air, ordering Vera to be built where the arrow landed. This area of Spain has a dry climate, enjoys over 300 days of sun each year and has exceptionally mild winter weather. Because the area is located just about as far south as it is possible to go in Europe, and protected by the Sierra Cabrera Mountains it boosts having the best climate in Europe.
Vera Town: The walled, renaissance town of Vera is one of the most important commercial centres in the region. A traditional old Spanish town which is constantly increasing in popularity with tourists who are attracted to its many shops and handicrafts, Spanish tapas bars, fancy restaurants and the friendliness and hospitality of its inhabitants. For sight-seeing the most important sights are : the church La Encarnacion which was built in 1400 Century, the Royal Hospital San Augustin which was also built in the 1600 Century, the monastery La Victoria, the chapel Espirtu Santo and the historic town museum and the fountain called Cuatro Canos.
Vera Playa: Vera Playa, is located closer to Garrucha than it is to Vera and boasts over four miles of clean sandy beaches stretching from Villaricos in the north to Garrucha in the south. The beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag quality award by the European Union. Close to Vera Playa is a open air water park that overlooks the sea. The park has an excellent variety of water rides, shoots and fumes, children's play area and three large swimming pools. The park is open from May until the end of September.
Naturist area: The Playa's main claim to fame is that it is home to the world's first naturist hotel complete with a naturist zone that includes a two kilometre of beach. The naturist's area around Vera has continued to grow and now includes naturist urbanisations with houses, apartments, villa and restaurants and leisure facilities of their own.
Vera Bullring: The Vera Bullring was originally built in 1879 and later restored in keeping with the old style in 1993. The Bullring is situated on the outskirts of Vera on the road to Garrucha, it is also home to a museum which is open to the public. Bullfights are still performed in the ring today.
Market Day: Don't miss the Saturday morning street market that seems to takes over the whole town, where absolutely everything is on sale, including a few useful items.
Parque Acuatico: Vera Playa is home to a splendid water park. The park offers a good selection of
water flumes, slides and shoots, a kamikaze ride, three swimming pools, a safe children's play area and a good selection
of refreshments and snacks. The park is a great day out for those who what to take a thrilling ride or others
who what to relax on a sun bed by a pool or in the shaded picnic areas.
Golf: Vera is great location to stay if you are coming to the area to play golf. The town and playa are centrally located to enable easy access to the areas excellent golfing venues. Valle del Este Golf Resort, Marina Golf and Desert Springs are a very short drive away, a little further (20 minutes) are the new courses of Aguilon Golf and Playa Macenas and the beautifully 9 hole Cortijo Grande course.
